Portfolio Program at Delone Catholic

The portfolio program at Delone Catholic was first introduced as an Accreditation For Growth Objective.

Objective#1: By 2019, students at Delone Catholic High School will demonstrate stronger critical thinking skills, creativity, self-awareness, and the use of multimedia skills through the creation of a reflective, cumulative portfolio that highlights their academic and extracurricular achievements.  Achievement of this objective will be measured by:

  • Submission of a multimedia portfolio at a satisfactory or better level as scored on the Delone Catholic High School portfolio point system by the deadline
    • Baseline:  2009-2011:  0% of Delone Catholic students submitted a multimedia portfolio at a satisfactory or better level as scored on the Delone Catholic High School portfolio evaluation rubric by the deadline
    • Target Goal:  100% of Delone Catholic students submitted a multimedia portfolio at a satisfactory or better level as scored on the Delone Catholic High School portfolio evaluation rubric by the deadline
  • Submission of satisfactorily completed required portfolio entries each school year (as indicated on the portfolio requirement checklist)
    • Baseline:  2009-2011:  0% of Delone Catholic students submitted satisfactorily completed required portfolio entries
    • Target Goal:  100% of Delone Catholic students will submit satisfactorily completed required portfolio entries each school year
  • Increase in the five-year average PSAT writing score for 11th graders
    • Baseline: 2007-2011: five-year average score of 47 (45 - Males, 49 - Females)
    • Target Goal: Five-year average score of 48 (46 - Males, 50 - Females)"

This objective was chosen because more and more colleges and employers want to get more well-rounded understanding of a prospective student/employee's personality, interests and accomplishments and thus are turning toward digital portfolios when making admission/hiring decisions.  Our students also expressed having difficulty remembering all of their high school activities when preparing applications for college/employment.  Therefore, we developed these digital portfolios to help students create a digital record of their high school career, providing opportunities for students to record and reflect on their academics, career/college exploration and extracurricular activities.

Beginning with the Class of 2020, the successful completion of all portfolio assignments  is a requirement for graduation from Delone Catholic.
