The Nuns of the Carmel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Fairfield are building a new Monastery in Fairfield with traditional methods, using stone from their site, and need helpers to wash and prepare stone ready for the stonemasons. Thurs, Fri, Sat evenings throughout June 2018, as well as June 26-30 throughout the day. See attached description. The new monastery of the Carmelites in Fairfield are in need of volunteers throughout the summer. The Nuns’ first building, a small woodshed, will have a roof made from traditional wood carpentry and joinery. The Nuns need volunteers at the workshop July 9-20, run by Lancaster County Timber Frames. 16 ages and up, in a Father/Son team. Very basic carpentry knowledge required. Commitment to at least one of the two weeks necessary. See attached description. 80 hours available
Several naturalist workshops will also be held to restore the natural mini-ecosystem of the site and implement a permaculture plan to get the Sisters started with their Monastery farm. Descriptions attached. Many skills to be learned while helping the Nuns and enjoying the beautiful hilltop farm in Fairfield!
