The Hanover YMCA Future Stars Basketball program is looking for volunteers to assist in running our youth basketball programs. The main area of need is working the score clocks during the youth basketball games on Saturdays at both the Hanover and Littlestown YMCA. There are some other areas as well. The First Grade teacher at Rolling Acres Elementary is looking for student volunteers to help with various tasks around the classroom (organizing the library, etc.). The volunteers would also be able to come in to the room and help with the students on days that Delone Catholic has off. Penn Township operates a recycling drop-off center at 1020 Wilson Ave. in Hanover. This is where residents can deliver their newspapers, junk mail, magazines, cardboard, plastic shopping bags, eye glasses, hearing aids, clothing, and electronics to be recycled. The Township accepts volunteers who enjoy giving back to the community. The responsibility of volunteers is to assist the Township residents with the unloading of recyclables from their vehicles and keeping the trailers and drop-off area clean and organized. The center is open from 8 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays. The American Red Cross, Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Services Region have volunteer opportunities for high school students this summer by assisiting at blood drives in the area.This is a great opportunity to earn service hours, build your resume, meet interesting people, and make a difference in your community. Volunteers need to be at least 14 years old, have excellent customer service skills, and volunteer at least 2 times per month over the summer for a minimum of 40 hours. Student volunteers are needed to help at the New Oxford Library, a branch of the Adams County Library System. Students 14-years or older are needed on Monday evenings from 6-8 p.m. to help prepare and assist the staff with children's programs, assist the public locate books and information, fill materials used for seasonal displays, return materials to proper shelves, and assist patrons at the computers as necessary. Interested students need to be prompt and responsible, have some computer knowledge, good customer service, and a working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system to shelve books. Friends of Delone Catholic High School: On the first Tuesday of every month, we will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Delone Catholic chapel to say a rosary for our students, faculty, staff and administration.
