  • Help Wanted: Long-Term Substitute Math Teacher

    Delone Catholic High School is seeking a year long substitute math teacher for the 2017-18 school year. 
     
    Candidates are expected to be "Doers of the Word;" rooted in, upholding, supporting, and demonstrating the values of the Gospel, the Catholic Church and Delone Catholic High School; and inspiring students to do the same.
     
    Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education with an active Level 1 teaching certificate, clearances, and Pastor’s Recommendation. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with student, staff, parents and the community. Candidates must be in compliance with PA State clearance requirements.

  • Delone Catholic Names Interim Vice Principal

    Delone Catholic High School has announced Mrs. Donna Tompkins the Interim Vice Principal for the 2017-18 school year. 
     
    Mrs. Tompkins will be stepping down from her current position in the Math Department to assume this role for the school year. 
     
    A year-long substitute position is now available in the Math Department for the 2017-18 school year. Interested candidates should send their cover letter and resume to Mrs. Tompkins as soon as possible.

    The Diocese of Harrisburg and the Delone Catholic High School Board are pleased to announce the appointment of Richard V. LaRocca as the school's new Principal effective July 1.  Mr. LaRocca has over 30 years of experience in education.
     
    "Praised be Jesus Christ!  What a blessing to learn this Easter season that I have been chosen as the next principal of Delone Catholic High School," commented Mr. LaRocca who continued, 
    "I am looking forward to getting to know and work with the families, staff and extended DCHS community as we collaborate in educating the next generation of 'Doers of the Word.'  I humbly request their prayers for God to provide me with the wisdom to be an effective leader on all levels.  Go, Squires!"
     
    Mr. LaRocca currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Poolesville High School with Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland.  He will succeed Dr. Maureen Thiec who has served as Principal for the past 25 years and will be retiring at the end of this school year.
     
    Father Edward J. Quinlan, the Secretary for Education of the Diocese of Harrisburg formally appointed Mr. LaRocca to the position. The Board of Directors of Delone Catholic High School recommended him for appointment following interviews conducted at the diocese and by the local search committee for the Board.
     
    "I am excited that Mr. LaRocca will be joining the Delone Catholic family. Working with our parents, faculty, students and all our stakeholders, I feel confident he will lead our school to continued success in the future," stated Douglas A. Little, PhD, President of the Delone Catholic Board of Directors and Class of '81 alumnus.  He added, "With his extensive experience and ability to easily connect with others, he is well qualified to continue and expand on Delone Catholic's great traditions in ensuring the outstanding preparation of our students for their future endeavors."
     
    Mr. LaRocca began his teaching career at Monroe Catholic High School in Fairbanks, Alaska, served as Instructor at The Catholic University, University of Maryland and Hood College, and since 1985 has been with Montgomery County Schools teaching languages and later in school administration. 
     
    Mr. LaRocca holds a BA in History and Spanish from Cornell University, STB in Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Rome), MA in Spanish from The Catholic University of America, and an STL in Theology from the University of Navarre (Spain).  He also holds Teaching and Administrative Certification from the State of Maryland.
     
    Mr. LaRocca and his wife of 31 years have five children and are the proud grandparents of four grandchildren.

  • Sophomore Class Fundraiser - Chick-fil-A!

    The Sophomore Class Chick-fil-A fundraiser is underway.  If anyone is interested in purchasing a meal package please see any member of the sophomore between now and May 12. Meal vouchers will be delivered by May 19 and must be redeemed during the week of May 22. Kids' Meal digital offer cards do not not expire until Dec. 31, 2017. 

    Reminder to sophomores:  your goal is to sell seven boxed meal plans or contribute $20.  Anyone who does not participate may be subject to higher prices to attend Junior and Senior prom.  The fundraiser will run through Friday, May 12.  All orders and monies should be turned into Mr. Staub in room 17.

Volunteers will be helping to monitor games, greet people as they enter, pain faces, etc. and can work in shifts from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. or from 1 - 4:30 p.m. See the attached flyer for more details. The main area of need is working the score clocks during the youth basketball games on Saturdays at both the Hanover and Littlestown YMCA. There are some other areas as well.     Penn Township operates a recycling drop-off center at 1020 Wilson Ave. in Hanover. This is where residents can deliver their newspapers, junk mail, magazines, cardboard, plastic shopping bags, eye glasses, hearing aids, clothing, and electronics to be recycled. The Township accepts volunteers who enjoy giving back to the community. The responsibility of volunteers is to assist the Township residents with the unloading of recyclables from their vehicles and keeping the trailers and drop-off area clean and organized. The center is open from 8 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays. If anyone has any questions about the program or would like to volunteer, please call Penn Township Recycling at 717-637-1561.

    The American Red Cross, Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Services Region have volunteer opportunities for high school students this summer by assisiting at blood drives in the area.This is a great opportunity to earn service hours, build your resume, meet interesting people, and make a difference in your community. Volunteers need to be at least 14 years old, have excellent customer service skills, and volunteer at least 2 times per month over the summer for a minimum of 40 hours.
