Student Life at Delone Catholic

Student activities outside the classroom help the school to fulfill its mission to "challenge students spiritually, academically, physically, socially and aesthetically within the traditions and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church." While many student activities are offered outside of the school day, Delone Catholic also offers bimonthly activities periods during the school day, so that students for whom transportation is an issue can participate in the extracurricular life of the school.

Student Life News

  • Memorial Day Parade 2018

    -           All concert band & color guard members including seniors are needed and expected to march with the concert band in the Memorial Day Parade.  We cannot do the the parade without the class of 2018.  We owe it to our local veterans, both living and deceased, to participate in this parade and honor their sacrifices for our country, even if it may be a little inconvenient for us.

    -           Please note: all woodwind and brass players (except flutes) need to purchase a lyre to hold the flip folder on your instrument.  Take your instrument to the music store when you go to purchase your lyre to make sure it fits.  Flutes need at least 2 rubber bands.

    -           Instrumentalists will wear white uniform pants, tall white socks, white band shoes, and dark blue band jackets.  They will not wear hats or gloves.  Guard members will wear the guard uniforms and guard shoes.  All band members should bring any hats, scrub pants, parkas, red school garment bags, or uniform parts still in their possession, to turn them in at the beginning/end of the parade.  Instrumentalists should wear shorts and T-shirts/tank tops under the uniforms so that they can turn in all other uniform parts at the end of the parade route before dismissal.  Guard members must turn in all uniform parts as well – either at the parade route or back at school right after the parade.  Nobody should have any uniform parts in their possession after May 28.  We need EVERYTHING back so we can do inventory and cleaning.

    -           Make sure you have everything you need for the parade: complete uniform as described above; your instrument, flag or banner; mouthpiece, valve oil, or reeds; lyre; flip folder; harness, sticks and mallets; music for "Service Songs Set 2: Marines/Air Force", "Star Spangled Banner", and the drum cadence.

    -           If you need anything to be loaded on the truck for the parade, please place it on the truck yourself by 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 25; otherwise it will be assumed that you will show up at the parade site with everything you need.  If anyone discovers that they've forgotten anything, they should report to Delone at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, May 28.  The truck will be leaving Delone around 7:10 a.m.

    -           Meet in the Royal Farms parking lot near the corner of Carlisle and Chestnut Streets in Hanover about a block north of the square by 7:30 a.m. on Monday, May 28. (Look for the band truck.),-76.97897&spn=0.017212,0.038581

    -           We will be performing "Star Spangled Banner" at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at the conclusion of the parade along with Hanover HS, South Western HS, The Lyric Band, and the Lancers.  No Delone student will be permitted to leave until after that group performance.

    -           Have someone pick you up at McCallister Street and Wirt Avenue near Sheppard-Myers Football Field around 10:00 a.m. near the spot where we meet for the Halloween Parade.  Wirt Avenue intersects with Baltimore Street at the cemetery (just north of Giant).

    • In the event of rain, don't assume that the parade is cancelled. Check your e-mail and the Delone Catholic Music Department home page  for possible cancellations.  (It is always good practice to press F5 or click refresh to make sure you are viewing the most up-to-date version of the home page.)  You can also check WHVR 1280 AM for possible cancellations.  If you don’t hear about a cancellation, you should show up at the parade site as instructed.
