English, Mathematics, Social Studies Induct New Members into Honor Societies

On Sunday, Oct. 20, three Delone Catholic honor societies held a joint induction ceremony int the cafeteria for new members. Lori Shaeffer ’15, an architectural designer and planner who works for the Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Planning, Design, and Construction, gave the keynote address. Shaeffer encouraged students to maximize every opportunity on the way to achieving their dreams.

The Delone Catholic Chapter of the National English Honor Society (NEHS) inducted 15 new members.

2024 NEHS Inductees

The new NEHS members include Jackson Arigo ’26, Samantha Bealmear ’26, Kaylie Brown ’26, Cole Davis ’26, Taylor Dettinburn ’26, Julianna Donahue ’26, Ben Goedecker ’26, Camryn Groft ’26, Grace Hewitt ’26, Olivia Knox ’26, Timothy Martz ’26, Ivy Nieves ’26, Gianna Noel ’26, Ella Smith ’26, and Brielle Wittmer ’26.

The National English Honor Society (NEHS), founded and sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, is the only national organization exclusively for high school students and faculty who, in the field of English, merit special note for past and current accomplishments. Individual high schools are invited to petition for a local chapter, through which individuals may be inducted into Society membership. Immediate benefits of affiliation will be national recognition, scholarship eligibility, and opportunities for national networking with others who share enthusiasm for, and accomplishment in, the language arts. Eventually, NEHS will hold conferences and provide ways to link NEHS with other honor societies and with organizations related to the field of English.

The new members of Mu Alpha Theta include Joselin Almanza ’26, Jackson Arigo ’26, Kaylie Brown ’26, Cora Chronister ’26, Owen Darlington ’26, Taylor Dettinburn ’26, Julianna Donahue ’26, Catherine Donnelly ’26, Ben Goedecker ’26, Cierra Graen ’26, Camryn Groft ’26, Avery Heberling ’26, Grace Hewitt ’26, Lance Keller ’26, Olivia Knox ’26, Chase Martin ’26, Timothy Martz ’26, Julia Miller ’26, Matthew Mummert ’26, Ivy Nieves ’26, Liam O’Brien ’26, MacKenzie O’Connor ’25, Luke Rebert ’26, Jocelyn Robinson ’26, Logan Sabaka ’26, Kylie Schwarz ’26, Owen Smith ’25, Ezekiel Vandergrift ’26, and Brielle Wittmer ’26.

The Mu Alpha Theta National High School and Junior College Mathematics Club was founded in 1957 by Dr. and Mrs. Richard V. Andree at the University of Oklahoma. In his words, Mu Alpha Theta is “an organization dedicated to promoting scholarship in mathematics and establishing math as an integral part of high school and junior college education.” The name Mu Alpha Theta was constructed from the Greek lettering for the phonemes m, a, and th.

The Venerable St. Bede Chapter of Rho Kappa, the National Social Studies Honor Society, welcomed 18 new members.

The new members of Rho Kappa include Olivia Blake ’25, Evelyn Bucchioni ’25, Benjamin Caretti ’26, Enzo DiFatta ’26, John Paul Groves ’25, Aubrey Harrington ’26, Owen Ignatowski ’25, Langdon Parsley ’26, Amelia Posner ’25, Angello Salazar ’25, Jane Scovitch ’25, Amiyah Sharpe ’26, Keira Slonaker ’26, Joseph Suthard ’26, Jordan Warfield ’25, Lila Yingling ’25, Ryan Young ’25, and Preston Younkins ’25.

Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies. Any accredited public high school or non-secondary school can apply for a local chapter, through which individuals will be inducted into Rho Kappa Honor Society. Rho Kappa provides national recognition and opportunities for exploration in social studies. NCSS hopes to encourage an interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for social studies through the creation of Rho Kappa.
