Memorial Mass Planned for Former Vice Principal Sister Maria Jude, CSJ

Delone Catholic High School mourns the passing of former faculty member and Vice Principal Sister Maria Jude LaPoint, CSJ.

Sister Maria arrived at Delone Catholic in 1995, and she was a fixture on the school's administrative team for the next 21 years. While a stickler on gum chewing, shirttails, and skirt lengths, there was no questioning Sister Maria's devotion to her students. She spent weeks each summer laying out the school's master academic schedule by hand (with a yardstick and a felt-tip pen) to personalize each student's schedule as much as possible for their future success. She never lost her passion for the classroom, teaching classes in marketing and criminal justice throughout her years at Delone Catholic.

Sister Maria went on to spend several years teaching at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School following her retirement from Delone Catholic, concluding a 50-year career in Catholic education. She then returned to her community in Albany, N.Y.

Sister Maria was celebrating her 60th jubilee in 2026. She was the last of hundreds of religious Sisters to work full-time at Delone Catholic. Sister passed away on March 6. She is survived by her siblings, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, her community of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, and thousands of students who benefitted from her prayer and guidance throughout her ministry.

A Memorial Mass for Sr. Maria Jude will be held on Saturday, April 11 at 11 a.m. at Annunciation B.V.M. Catholic Church in McSherrystown, Pa.
