Delone Catholic Speech & Debate's Hutchinson and Marchak Secure National Bids
Updated

Carli Hutchinson '27 and Maria Marchak '27 have officially qualified for the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) National Tournament, held this June in Washington, D.C. Under the guidance of coaches Derf Maitland P'13, P'14, P'17, P'18, and Bethany Staub '19, the pair will compete in Duo Interpretation with their piece, "Around the World in a Bad Mood" by Rene Foss.

This has been a particularly successful year for the duo. In addition to the NSDA, they’ve already qualified for the National Catholic Forensics League (NCFL) national tournament and are currently awaiting a decision on their application to the Tournament of Champions (TOC), where they competed last year.

Individually, Carli has also qualified for this year’s TOC in Dramatic Interpretation. Both students competed at the Pennsylvania High School Speech League (PHSSL) state tournament last weekend, placing fourth in Duo Interpretation, before shifting their focus to the national circuit this summer.
