Festival of Lessons and Carols
As “Doers of the Word,” the Junior Band spent the fall preparing a Festival of Lessons and Carols to share with you and your family. We hope this helps to focus on the birth of our Savior.
Carols
Once in Royal David’s City
Once in royal David’s city stood a lowly cattle shed. Where a mother laid her baby in a manger
for a bed. Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little Child.
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
O come, o come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel, that mourns in lowly exile here,
until the Son of God appear. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, o Israel!
Of the Father’s Love Begotten
Of the Father’s love begotten, ere the worlds began to be, He is Alpha and Omega, He the
source, the ending He, of the things that are, that have been, and that future years shall see.
Evermore and evermore.
All Creatures of Our God and King
All creatures of our God and king, lift up your voices, let us sing: Alleluia! Alleluia! Bright
burning sun with golden beams, soft silver moon that gently gleams, o praise him!
O praise him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus
Come, thou long-expected Jesus, born to set thy people free! From out fears and sins release
us, Let us find our rest in thee. Israel’s strength and consolation, hope of all the earth thou art:
dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing heart.
People Look East
People, look East. The time is near of the crowning of the year. Make your house fair as you
are able. Trim the hearth and set the table. People, look East, and sing today. Love, the Guest,
is on the way.
Prepare the Way, O Zion
Prepare the way, O Zion, your Christ is drawing near! Let every hill and valley, a level way
appear. Great one who comes in glory, foretold in sacred story, o blest is Christ that
came in God’s most Holy name.
Good Christian Friends, Rejoice
Good Christian friends, rejoice with heart, and soul, and voice; give ye heed to what we say:
Jesus Christ is born today; ox and ass before him bow, and he is in a manger now. Christ is
born today! Christ is born today!
